Your profile pic whether for Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media says quite a bit about you. It represents the message you want sent to every person who sees you online. Many will put a pic of their kids, themselves with their kids, a pic of themselves doing their favorite activity, somewhere they visited recently, or a head shot of some sort. Whatever it is, everyone knows people will see it, and when they do, they will think something specific about you. ”Oh they have cute kids,” or “they have lost weight,” or “they look single.” Or people may see your happy, quirky or serious personality. Whatever they’re thinking about you shouldn’t be a surprise because you are directing your image via this picture. 
In my case my current Facebook profile pic is of a show I danced in recently. It says to those who see it, ”Sarah is a dancer.” I’m very proud to be able to dance after 2 kids and countless injuries, so I am happy to broadcast that information to all my Facebook friends and those who search for me. From time to time I will post a pic of me with my girls or with Michael. Usually the picture portrays something significant of who I am.
What stands out to me very often are the pics of men or women that are taken of themselves by themselves. It could be taken with a webcam, but usually, they’ll put one arm up high in the air to get the camera as far away from themselves as possible, and 9 times out of 10 (for women at least) they will sort of half-smile and show some amount of cleavage. To me this type of profile pic says a whole lot. Most obviously it says I am available or I want you to think I’m hot… Why else are you taking this pic of yourself? So how many married women do you know with a one arm reach profile pic? I can think of a few.

Love the blog Sarah! currently my profile picture says I need to powder my face… the “dewey” look is for the younger set not me! I am glad you drew attention to this as I have nothing else to think about….. HA! You know I’m kidding! I am now off to analyze my pictures and try something that says something significant about myself……………..or I am off to drink… realizing I have nothing significant to say…………. damn you!
